Billy Ray Conway, age 90, of Sunset Road, Hillsboro, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2024, at St. Claire HealthCare in Morehead.
He was born April 8, 1934, in Hillsboro, Kentucky, and was a son of the late Raymond Conway and Flora Story Conway. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Story.
Mr. Conway is survived by his wife, Shirley Ann Vice Conway; two sons, Wayne (Pattiey) Conway of Hillsboro and Raymond J. (Christie) Conway of South Carolina; one daughter, Robin (Gary) Heiny of Gas City, Indiana; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Other survivors include two sisters, Polly (Terry) Hurst of Flemingsburg and Jane (Noel) Humphries of Milford, Ohio; one brother, Leslie (Joan) Conway of Conyers, Georgia, as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from General Motors in Marion, Indiana, after 30 years as a tool and die maker. Bill was a member of Flemingsburg Franklin Sousley VFW Post 1834 and American Legion Post No. 5, where he also served as past commander, a 50-year Mason, a member of Ewing 581 Favorite Lodge, Ewing, Kentucky, where he also served as Past Master, a member of Vally of Fort Wayne 32 Scottish Rite in Fort Wayne, Indiana, a member of Mizpah Fort Wayne and Morehead Shrine Club, and a past patron of the Flemingsburg Eastern Star.
Billy enjoyed cattle farming after retirement and loved hunting, fishing, woodworking, and spending time with friends and family. He enjoyed life and never met a stranger. Billy will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, April 22, 2024, at Hutton Funeral Home in Hillsboro with Pastor Jeff Fannin officiating. Burial will follow in Hillsboro Cemetery.
Full military honors will be presented by Flemingsburg Franklin Sousley VFW Post 1834, Flemingsburg American Legion Post No. 5, and Morehead American Legion Post No. 126, who will also serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 21, 2024, and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday, April 22, 2024, at Hutton Funeral Home, 7634 Hillsboro Road, Hillsboro, KY 41049. At 7:30 p.m. Sunday, April 21, 2024, Masonic rites will be presented by Ewing 581 Favorite Lodge, Ewing, KY.
