James W. "Jay" Sexton

James W. “Jay” Sexton, age 74, of Orchard Road, Hillsboro, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2026, at his residence. 

Born April 4, 1951, in Maysville, he was the son of the late Wesley and Cathryn Miller Sexton.

Jay is survived by his significant other, Deborah Brown; one daughter, Amanda Logan and Andy of Plummers Landing; four stepchildren, Billy Hammond of Flemingsburg, Brenda Rudd and David of Plummers Landing, Melinda Steele and Mike of Beechburg, and Rebecca Hammond of Hillsboro; one sister, Judy Lynn Sexton of Alexandria; two grandchildren, Lexie Conyers and Jacob and Aaron Logan; seven step grandchildren, Cody Hester and Jordan, Sammy Lynch and Kyle, Emily Sanchez and Cesario, Blake Steele and Tessa, Derek Rudd and Megan, Alex Rudd and Bethany, and Katie Hammond, as well as numerous step great-grandchildren, extended family and friends.

Jay served in the U.S. Army and retired from Browning Manufacturing Company in Maysville after years of dedicated service.  He greatly enjoyed the outdoors, horseback riding, caring for his dogs, going to auctions, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Hillsboro Christian Church.  Jay will be greatly missed by his family and friends.    

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Hutton Funeral Home with Pastor Greg Grimes officiating.  Immediately following the service, full military honors will be presented at the funeral home by Morehead American Legion Post 126. 

Burial will follow at the Hillsboro Cemetery.  Pallbearers:  Andy Logan, Jim Bradley, Derek Rudd, Alex Rudd, David Rudd, Sammy Miller, Larry Jones.  Honorary Pallbearers:  Terry Crump, Charlie Crump, Aaron Logan.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hutton Funeral Home, 7634 Hillsboro Road, Hillsboro, KY 41049.
